What we collect and why
- Consultation requests. Name, email, optional phone, preferred language, location of the property, type of project, what you are looking for, budget, timing, your message and any files you attach (moodboard, photos, plans). We also record which page you sent the request from and the language of the site, so we know which story or service it relates to. We use this only to answer your request.
- Newsletter. If you subscribe to Letters from Istria, we keep your email address and the language of the page where you subscribed, to send you one email a month. You can unsubscribe at any time. The newsletter is sent through Mailchimp (Intuit Inc., USA), which stores your address on our behalf under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses; Mailchimp asks you to confirm your subscription by email.
- Technical data. Like every website, the server records technical information (such as IP address and browser) for security and to keep the site working. We do not use this data to identify you.
Legal basis
We process the data from your request with your consent and to take the steps you ask for before a possible agreement (Article 6(1)(a) and (b) GDPR). Newsletter subscriptions are based on your consent. Technical data is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Who receives your data
Your request and its attachments are forwarded to the Lampisa atelier, the furniture maker Atrij collaborates with, so that they can contact you and prepare a proposal. Atrij may receive a commission from the atelier if you commission furniture; this does not change your price. We do not sell your data and do not pass it to anyone else, except to technical providers that host the website and deliver email on our behalf, under a data processing agreement.
How long we keep it
- Consultation requests: up to two years after our last contact, unless a longer period is required by law (for example, accounting records if a commission is paid).
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Technical logs: a short period, usually no more than a few weeks.
Cookies
Atrij uses only cookies that are needed for the site to work: one remembers the language you chose, and editors who sign in receive session cookies. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and fonts are served from our own server rather than from third parties.
To understand which stories people read, we count visits with Umami, an analytics tool that runs on our own server in the EU. It uses no cookies, does not store IP addresses and does not identify you; we only see totals such as page views, countries and the pages people came from.
Your rights
You may ask for access to your data, its correction or deletion, restriction of processing, data portability, and you may object to processing or withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting processing done before. Write to the email address above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP, azop.hr).
Changes
If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page. Last updated: October 2026.
